Jonathan Mueke was born into a family of six headed by his parents Dr & Mrs. Mueke from Kitui County. After attending public primary and secondary schools, Jonathan left for the United States of America where he attended Wayne State University (Major in Bsc. Computer Science, minor in Business Administration) and Oakland University (MBA, double major in Global Information Technology and Entrepreneurship). During his undergraduate years, he served as the organizing secretary for the African Students Association.
While still in the USA, Jonathan worked at Wayne State University as a Systems Administrator, K-Mart Corporation as a Y2K Systems Developer, DaimlerChrysler Corporation as a Project Manager and FiServ Incorporated as a Technology Services Manager.


Jonathan’s leadership potential has been identified in both professional and political spheres, earning him honors locally and abroad, including being an elected member of Strathmore Who’s Who in leadership (USA). He was also the founding President of the Kenya Community Abroad, Michigan Chapter and is an alumni of the exclusive Sunwords leadership unusual FFWD program.
Having run for the Westlands parliamentary seat unsuccessfully in the 2007 elections, 2013 saw Jonathan became the running mate in Dr. Evans Kidero’s gubernatorial bid and they were consequently elected as Nairobi City County first Governor and Deputy Governor.
Hon. Mueke was born into a family of six under the stewardship of his parents Dr & Mrs Mueke from Kitui County. He was a prefect all through primary and secondary school. At the university, he was the organising secretary of the African Students Association in the US. He did a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science (Wayne State University), an MBA in Information Technology (Oakland University). While still in the USA, he worked at Wayne State University as a Systems Administrator, K-Mart Corporation as a Y2K Systems Developer, DaimlerChrysler Corporation as a Project Manager and FiServ Incorporated as a Technology Services Manager.
While serving as Nairobi’s Deputy Governor, Jonathan oversaw the Trade & Corporatives, Roads & Infrastructure, Agriculture, Youth and ICT ministries in the County. He also led the County Delivery Unit whose primary role was to ensure that all county projects were executed properly, were sustainable and had the desired impact to the public.
Jonathan brings to Kitui county, experience, credibility, integrity, competence and transformative leadership skills — just what Kitui needs to face the challenges of lack of water, youth unemployment, infrastructure development, service delivery, inefficiency and change management. He brings with him a global network of investors with the capacity to exploit Kitui’s natural & mineral resources to the benefit and wealth creation of the people of Kitui.
Jonathan is also an entrepreneur with interests in the Real Estate and Technology sectors and is continually involved in several community projects across Kenya.
Jonathan is Married with 2 children.
